In case you have been living under a rock the past couple of days, Jamie Lynn Spears was the voice of reason on Instagram. She spoke about the travesty that has been occurred involving one of her sister, Britney Spears, singles “Piece of Me.” Pretty much, Jamie says what we all are thinking: The song is underrated and that it should have wonder a Grammy and should be nominated for a Grammy every year. Because of this, I thought it was fitting that we revisit what is considered her best work. We are going to talk about “Blackout.”
It’s Britney, bitch
“Blackout ” is the fifth studio album from the legendary Britney Spears. It was released in the fall of 2007. The album was recorded and released during Britney’s dark period. It was her first album after having not released one since 2003. There’s an entire backstory for this and we aren’t here for that. Just Google “Britney Spears Original Doll” and you find out all that you need to know. If I’m not mistaken, this is the first album that Britney was executive producing, which just means she made more control over the entire album than what was probably given to her in the past. One of the major producers of the album is Danja. He is featured on many of the songs on the album is pretty much everyone that Britney wants to work with again. The last album he worked with her on was 2008’s “Circus.”
The album isn’t like anything that we have gotten before from Britney. It’s more dance-pop and electropop. It’s honestly lightyears ahead of its time. It has dubstep in there and uses it so much better than how it’s used today. The Britney Stan in me would even say that she’s helped make dubstep popular like Cher made auto-tune popular after she did “Believe” back in 1999.
“Blackout” was the album that gave us iconic songs like “Piece of Me” and “Gimme More.” The latter song was performed at 2007 MTV Video Music Awards in an infamous performance. Yep, it’s THAT song. “Piece of Me” literally
This album is just an extremely enjoyable experience from the first song to the last song, excluding the random “Gimme More” remix, are just so good songs. They all fit so well together and just flows well together. Even the meh songs, which are some, are still good. Britney’s vocals on this album are also very good. The people she worked with, including Pharrell Williams, really knew what they were doing and how to work with Britney. They produced this album so well.
“Blackout” had very
Now I’m not going to “rate” this album because frankly, I’m going to rate it 5 out of 5. I think everyone should listen to this album as it’s a pop classic. The album is such a classic that it’s in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Yeah, that’s how this album is viewed. I recommend you listen to the album. I really like this album to the point where this is my favorite album of Britney’s. If I had to pick my top five songs on this album, which is extremely hard, it would be “Break The Ice,” “Gimme More,” “Hot as Ice,” “Piece of Me,” and “Get Back” in no particular order.
