Netflix’s ‘You’ is the thriller you need to watch

I decided to watch “You” on Netflix because I let society determine my viewing habits and what shows are cool and what shows are not. It actually took me like a couple of days to finish all ten episodes “You.” I paced myself in the beginning because it was a lot to handle. So let’s dive into the show that has everyone freaking out.

I always feel like somebody’s watching me

“You” was originally a series on Lifetime that premiered in 2018. It starred Penn Badgley (“Gossip Girl”) and Elizabeth Lail (“Once Upton A Time”) as the two main characters of the series. The series was developed by Greg Berlanti. That’s right. The guy that has given us “Riverdale” made this show. When I found this out, immediately got excited because 90% of the shows I watch he touches. He also directed “Love, Simon.” The show is based off of the novel “You,” written by Caroline Kepnes.

The show follows Joe Goldman (Badgley) as he falls in love with Guinevere Beck (Lail) after meeting her in his book store. This is a modern love story as Joe checks her out on social media. He then takes it to a whole other level by legitimately stalking her. Like full fledge creeping out your window stalking. The series then follows Joe and Guinevere’s love story from start to finish.

From the very start, you can tell that it is/was a Lifetime show. Lifetime shows have a certain feel and look to them. “You” has that look and feel. It’s not a bad thing because it’s actually a much better show than what is usually on Lifetime. It took a while for the show to really get into the story but when it did, it kept you in engaged in it.

For me, it was just creepy and didn’t really have me jumping or anything like that. Joe was extremely creepy and made me question people around me. Like who is being like Joe and just stalking me and watching my social media? I did have someone who followed me on twitter and I was the only one he was following. He was always replying back to my tweets, It got a bit creepy and I blocked him. This kind of brought back in my mind. Joe followed her in real life and on social media. It kind of made me question everything that I share on there. It’s probably a good thing that I don’t post a lot of pictures.

The acting on this show is way better than what is typically on a Lifetime show. Badgley was honestly the best part of the series. The dude doesn’t get enough props for his acting chops. The way he portrayed the character makes you question your feelings. There are times where you hate him and want him to go away. Other times you feel for him because there’s something that happened to cause him to be that way. He needs to get some sort of award for his portrayal.

I do recommend “You” as it’s something everyone should watch. It’s a show that makes you think and question everything that you do when it comes to social media, especially when it comes to dating. It keeps you interested and it’s just a wild ride. The show has been renewed for a second season as a Netflix original show. I’m excited to see what Netflix does with it.

Ask The Pop Project #6: Life Size 2, Demi Lovato, and Britney/Justin sex tape

I decided to take time out of my busy schedule (I know what you are thinking) to answer some of your questions that were eating away at your souls. Welcome to the latest edition of “Ask the Pop Project.” Let’s get started with some of your questions.

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

There’s going to be a Life Size 2 with Tyra. Do you think the movie will be any good?

– Concerned fan

I’m really hoping that the movie will be as good the first one. I would like a gritty reboot where Tyra is in Lindsay’s old toy box in her attic. Tyra comes back to life in order to help her turn her life around. Pretty much take Oprah’s series where she helps LiLo turn her life around, and just switch out Tyra for Oprah. I also want her to smile with her eyes because I feel like everyone, including knock-off Barbie dolls, needs to smile with your eyes. Yes, Tyra plays a knock-off Barbie. I said it

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

Why do you think that Disney hates you?

 – Someone who knows the mouse

You see when you post and talk about Disney being a pimp and how they whore their stars out for all the money they are worth, you burn bridges fast. I’m pretty sure I’ll be kicked off of Disney property as soon as I enter it. I’m proud to say that someone on a board that reads “DO NOT LET IN/HIRE,” my face is right next to Demi Lovato’s forever. Fun Fact: Demi Lovato told one of my friends that she smelled good. It’s a small world after all.

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

Did President Trump find out anything about the Britney and Justin sex tape?

– Concerned and curious person

For those that don’t know, I sent the following tweet to President Trump:

I’ve yet to receive a response but I’m taking that he’s still looking, I think he realized how important this is to state of the world. He’s a very “busy” man. When he’s golfing, I believe he’s doing hardcore research on whether the tape is in some holes. I also have people that say his wife and family is also

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

What do you like to use: Apple Music or Spotify

– Music lover

I’ll be doing an article on this eventually but I really like Apple Music. I have Apple devices and it’s nice to have all my music saved on the cloud. It also lets me add new music to my library without having to spend money to purchase it. I personally like Apple Music just because it makes my life easier and I love anything that makes my life easier.

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

Have you felt like a paper bag? Drifting through the wind, trying to start again

– Concerned Katy Perry

No, because I’m a human being. While I get and like the symbolism, it was just too much Katy. You’re song would have still been good without that line.

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

Why do you hate me?

– Beyoncé is the true queen

I don’t hate anyone but rather, I have a strong dislike for certain people. I would create a list but that would make it common knowledge. I like to leave people in suspense.

Ask The Pop Project #5

I decided to take time out of my busy schedule (I know what you are thinking) to answer some of your questions that were eating away at your souls. Welcome to the latest edition of “Ask the Pop Project.” Let’s get started with some of your questions.

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

What is Lindsay thinking? Also, I really do think we need to have a Parent’s Trap 2

– Disney Channel

I think that Lindsay Lohan doesn’t full get social media. She wasn’t “there” when it got big. She was too busy hanging out with Mary Jane and Krystal. It’s kind of like culture shock. I noticed that she tends to edit the stuff she post like she regrets it or someone tells her “Lindsay, I like what you are doing there but maybe you should change it.” Also, I think we should get Donald Trump to meet with her and film it. We could turn into a reality television show. I’m thinking “2 redheads and a country” or “The LiLo and the Trump.”

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

Why did you give Britney Ever After a horrible review? I feel like it was one-sided

 – Lifetime

Oh Lifetime. Like I said in my review, I give you credit for taking the time to make something. But let’s be real-it was a horrible movie. You’re movie was a one-sided shit show that just made up things and made a mockery of Britney Spears’ life. But the movie might have been better if I was drunk…or high-or not watching it. Overall, you shouldn’t make movies. Literally, please don’t.

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

Did Britney and Justin really have a sex tape?

– Concerned and curious person

I don’t know actually. I tweeted the President and asked him to research it because he can have the Russians hack and find out. This question is of national importance. We need to know in order to cope. Oh, here’s the tweet:

I’ll keep you posted if I find out an answer.

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

Favorite music right now?

– Music lover

I have the music taste of a 12-year-old girl. I’m currently listening to Britney Spears. I was on a Ariana Grande kick for before. It’s not really that interesting. Here’s one of my favorites. It’s dedicated to Lifetime:

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

What’s the point of this blog?

– Concerned blogger

Pop Culture is defined as “entirety of ideas, perspectives, attitudes, images, and other phenomena that are within the mainstream of a given culture, especially Western culture of the early to mid 20th century and the emerging global mainstream of the late 20th and early 21st century. The blog covers pop culture and pretty much anything can be tied into pop culture. That’s why it seems like this is a random blog, mainly because it is.

Dear Pop Project (Thaaaaatttt’s usssss!),

When are you going to update Britney Spears vs Beyoncé?

– Beyoncé is the true queen

I plan out it soon but it’s just it takes a long ass time. Especially when a dumbass doesn’t save all the original files and has to make them from scratch. It’s not like NSYNC vs BSB and it doesn’t get updated at all. But don’t worry, It will be updated soon.

Movie Review: Lifetime’s Britney Ever After

Buckle up, it’s an actress pretending to be Britney, bitch! Tonight, the movie event of 2017 premiered on Lifetime-a statement that I thought I would never say nor one that Lifetime had said about them in their life. “Britney Ever After” was a Lifetime movie based on the life of Britney Spears. This movie had a lot of hype for due to the amount of shade and publicity that it has received. Because it’s a Lifetime movie, I had low expection. But boy, did it even meet low expections.

This movie was a dumpster fire train wreck….the only positive thing that I can say is that I’m glad Lifetime took the time to make something. While I don’t like to use harsh swear words…I will make an exception for this. That’s how bad this movie is. The movie was a total and complete shit show. A SHIT SHOW. They really truly out did themselves with this. I went in knowing that it will be a train wreck but I thought it would be a well produced train wreck. Boy, I was wrong.

The premise of the movie is that Britney is being interviewed about her life in a 2008 documentary, which is Britney: For The Record. It jumps back and forth between 2008 and times in Britney’s life, starting when she met Justin Timberlake in 1998. It does this for the whole movie. It gets rather annoying, especially when she spends many minutes just staring into the camera. Then they throw in extra characters to talk. The extra character commentary doesn’t add to it. They are kind of there. They add in an extra girl but don’t really explain who the hell she is. It’s like she was just there to advance the plot. She disappears after her two scenes. Also, “Britney: For the Record” is a well know documentary. They could had tried to make it fit that better. I don’t remember Justin Timberlake being that much like he is the movie.

It was literally like they didn’t research anything besides the basic. They butchered the 2000 and 2007 VMA performances. The latter I thought was hard to butcher because it wasn’t a great performance to begin with. Boy, was I wrong agin. I get that they didn’t have permission to use Britney’s catalog but that still doesn’t make up for it. They also made shit up to “spicy it up” like Britney and Justin having sex on her tour bus in 1998 after their first kiss. Do you really believe they would do that? I know they were teens but still. Oh, Britney and Justin made a sex tape. Where was that on MTV? They just casual threw that in there. I feel like my knowledge on Britney and Justin have been one big lie if they have a sex tape.

The acting wasn’t anything to cry home to. It was either too dramatic, too corny, or just too much. It was like this from the first scene until the end. Britney was like a 5-year-old country bumpkin that was on cocaine. Justin was too much and extremely corny. I want to evict him from the island. Not to mention that the Spears family sounded like they were country bumpkins that have never been in the big city. The casting director was horrible and should never cast again. I could have casted better. They hardly looked like who they were suppose to. The only person I didn’t want to kill in the movie is Larry Rudolph, her manager. But it seemed like they were hinting towards him and Mrs. Spears hooking up then just dropped it. They could have tried harder. Lifetime really didn’t even try with this movie. They didn’t try to recreate the costumes right, they didn’t try to fix the acting, and they didn’t try to make it make sense. While it was reported that Justin and Britney had a dance off, which they featured in the movie, the dancing was horrible. Like it was bad. The set up was bad. It was all bad. The worst part is that they only spent two minutes talking about her rise back and it was shit. They should have covered it way better and way more.

The moral of this movie was that it’s Justin Timberlake’s fault for Britney’s mental breakdown. It was the icing on the cake of her life getting worse and her trying to get with douchebags afterwards to fill the void left by Justin and her father, who is portrayed as a loud mouth angry drunk. It also follows the Lifetime Movie motto-“It’s always a man’s fault.” Those damn men. How dare they?

The icing on the cake was they showed “I Am Britney Jean” after. This showed and totally contradicted what was presented in the movie. Again, this movie is a shit show.

Overall, this is the make the other movies look like Oscar worthy. It’s also the first recipient of The Pop Project Participation Award. Sad part is that it didn’t even show good effort.
